Serious question for the guys who have been in the trade 20+ years. Has it always been this bad with landlords or is it getting worse. Because I’ve had more of these calls in the last 2 years than the previous 10 combined.

Try calling a supply house in a different city if you’re close to a border or state line. Sometimes they still have old stock that hasn’t been purged from the system.

I have a chance to get into some decent work. Constant-ish.
To get into it I have to lower my prices a good amount. Beat out two companies they’ve been using for 25 years. Other two are at $150/hr. I’m thinking $125 just to get in. I’m by myself just starting out. Wouldn’t completely hurt me.
What do you guys think

The pre-charged line set ones are the worst. Customer thinks no vacuum needed and then acts surprised when the system has issues.

Honestly the office work IS revenue generating. An unanswered quote is money you already spent time on sitting in someone’s inbox doing nothing. A missed follow up is a job your competitor is going to get. The office work just has a longer lag time between effort and money which makes it feel less real.

Check your liquid line for any restriction too. High subcooling before a restriction looks identical to TXV overfeeding. If subcooling drops significantly at the condenser outlet vs the TXV inlet you’ve got a restriction in the liquid line.

Contact points are showing early signs of heat stress and wear. Pitting and discoloration suggest rising resistance, which can lead to voltage drop under load and intermittent sticking once the contactor warms up. This one’s heading toward failure not there yet, but close.
